An additional inch or less of lake effect snow expected from Trenary westward. Winds gusting as high as 25 to 35 mph will cause occasional whiteout conditions in blowing snow near the lakeshore. * WHERE...Alger, Luce, and Northern Schoolcraft Counties. * WHEN...Until 7 PM EST Monday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. Special Weather Statement issued January 9 at 2:54PM CST by NWS Chicago IL

Light snow is expected across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana late tonight into Friday, mainly east of a Woodstock-to- Amboy line. Snow is expected to affect the Friday morning commute and with temperatures below freezing, untreated roads will likely be snow covered. Total accumulations around an inch or two are expected across much of the Chicago metro area, with upwards of three inches possible south of I-80. Expect slick travel and reduced visibilities during the day tomorrow, especially during the morning, and allow for extra travel time.
