Air Quality Alert issued June 21 at 4:30PM EDT by NWS Pittsburgh PA

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a code ORANGE air quality alert for Sunday, including the greater Pittsburgh region, including Allegheny, Butler, Beaver, Armstrong, Washington, Westmoreland and Fayette counties. A code ORANGE air quality alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children, the elderly, and people suffering from asthma, heart disease, or other lung diseases. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding outdoor exercise or strenuous activity. Special Weather Statement issued June 21 at 6:59PM EDT by NWS Morristown TN

A ridge of high pressure will build into the Tennessee valley and southern Appalachians through next week producing hot and muggy conditions. Highs will climb into the lower and middle 90s across much of the Tennessee valley during the week with some areas in the upper 90s by mid-week. The hot temperatures and humid airmass will produce heat indices in the mid to upper 90s Sunday and Monday, increasing to upper 90s to lower 100s for Tuesday and Wednesday, and possibly 105 degrees for the latter half of the week.
