Federal Disaster Assistance for Connecticut Tops $9 Million Six weeks after President Joseph R. Biden declared a major disaster for the state of Connecticut following the August 18-19, 2024 Severe Storm, Flooding, Landslides and Mudslides, more than $9 million in federal assistance has been provided by FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to support disaster recovery.  As of November 14, Connecticut’s recovery assistance from FEMA includes: $9,001,961 million in FEMA’s Individual and Households Program (IHP) grants awarded to eligible homeowners and renters in three Connecticut counties. Homeowners and renters who had property damage or losses caused by the August 18-19, 2024 Severe Storm, Flooding, Landslides and Mudslides in Connecticut’s Fairfield, Litchfield and New Haven Counties may be eligible for federal disaster assistance. All applications received prior to or on the deadline date will be processed. Two Weeks Left for Vermonters to Apply for Federal Assistance Vermonters affected by July’s severe storms, flooding, landslides, and mudslides have two weeks to apply for federal disaster assistance, which may include FEMA grants to repair homes and replace property or low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration. The application deadline is November 25, 2024. For the storms that took place July 9-11, residents in the designated counties of Addison, Caledonia, Chittenden, Essex, Lamoille, Orleans and Washington are eligible to apply. Disaster Recovery Centers to Close for Veterans Day

Disaster Recovery Centers to Close for Veterans Day Disaster Recovery Centers for the storms and flooding that took place July 11-13 and July 29 - 31 will be closed for Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11.  These centers are located at the Hinesburg Town Hall (10632 Route 116) and the Lyndon Public Safety Facility at 366 Main Street. They will be opening back up on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 9 a.m. Normal operating hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday – Saturday. Closed Sundays. Residents affected by the flooding don’t need to visit a Disaster Recovery Center to register for FEMA

Disaster Recovery Center in Newport Scheduled to Close on November 9 The Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) located at the Newport City Municipal Building at 222 Main Street is scheduled to permanently close at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9. The center’s hours until then are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The center was opened for residents affected by the storms and flooding that took place July 9-11 and July 29-31 and who wanted to speak to FEMA and other disaster recovery specialists in person.  Residents don’t need to visit the DRC to apply for FEMA assistance. FEMA Releases over $83 million to Help Vermont Communities Rebuild FEMA has provided the state of Vermont with $83,600,591 in Public Assistance funding to help communities rebuild after the devastating storms and flooding that occurred in July 2023. FEMA’s Public Assistance program reimburses the state and local governments, and certain private nonprofit organizations, for debris removal, emergency protective measures and restoration of disaster-damaged public facilities.  Of the total Public Assistance funding obligated so far, $40,311,699 was allotted for debris removal and emergency work, which includes efforts to save lives and protect property, such as overtime for first responders, distribution of food and water

President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. Increases Federal Cost Share for Vermont WASHINGTON – FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell announced that President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. made additional disaster assistance available to the state of Vermont to supplement recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe storms, flooding, landslides and mudslides from July 7-21, 2023. The President authorized the federal cost-share to be increased from 75% to 90%, except for assistance previously approved at 100% for a limited time period.
