The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a code ORANGE air quality alert for Sunday, including the greater Pittsburgh region, including Allegheny, Butler, Beaver, Armstrong, Washington, Westmoreland and Fayette counties. A code ORANGE air quality alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children, the elderly, and people suffering from asthma, heart disease, or other lung diseases. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding outdoor exercise or strenuous activity. A ridge of high pressure will build into the Tennessee valley and southern Appalachians through next week producing hot and muggy conditions. Highs will climb into the lower and middle 90s across much of the Tennessee valley during the week with some areas in the upper 90s by mid-week.
