The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued an Air Quality Action Day for the following counties: Bergen, Eastern Passaic, Hudson, Essex, Union. from 11 AM to 11 PM EDT Thursday. An Air Quality Action Day means that Ground Level Ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards. Low levels of diffuse wildfire smoke will keep particulate matter concentrations in the moderate category. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Code ORANGE Air Quality Alert on Wednesday for the Susquehanna Valley. A Code ORANGE Air Quality Alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases, and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.
