Periods of snow showers and strong westerly winds gusting up to 60 mph are expected for the Eastern Aleutians through Tuesday with gusts up to 50 mph for the Southern Alaska Peninsula. Strong winds in conjunction with falling snow could significantly reduce visibility. The best chance for visibility to drop to a half mile will be this afternoon for the Eastern Aleutians and this evening for the Southern Alaska Peninsula. Rain could also mix in at times. Conditions will gradually improve from west to east on Tuesday as winds diminish and high pressure builds in.

* WHAT...Increased threat of sneaker waves expected. * WHERE...Coastal Del Norte, Northern Humboldt Coast, Southwestern Humboldt and Mendocino Coast Counties. * WHEN...Until midnight PST tonight. * IMPACTS...Large, unexpected waves can sweep across the beach without warning, sweeping people into the sea from rocks, jetties, and beaches. These sneaker waves can also move large objects such as logs, crushing anyone caught underneath.

At 342 PM PST, Doppler radar was tracking a strong storm over Browns Valley, or 14 miles northeast of Marysville, moving east at 20 mph. HAZARD...Winds in excess of 30 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Scattered light rain will expand north into central Indiana overnight. The precipitation may fall as a brief period of freezing rain across the northern half of central Indiana late tonight into Saturday morning with surface temperatures just below freezing. Any ice accumulation will be minimal and localized...but slick spots are possible on untreated roadways...bridges and overpasses. Temperatures will rise above freezing over all of central Indiana by late Saturday morning with the freezing rain threat ending.

Snow melt this afternoon and sub freezing temperatures will lead to slick road conditions. Hazardous road conditions are likely to continue until temperatures rise above freezing around mid morning on Friday. Use extra caution while driving and slow down to reduce your risk. Black ice is difficult to see and distinguish from dry surfaces. The deceptive nature of black ice can catch you unaware while you are driving or walking, causing you to lose control of your motor vehicle or to slip and fall.
