Rain and Snow mix is changing to snow in many locations across the Central Highlands into Northern Maine. Snowfall is becoming moderate to heavy at times in some locations. Despite air temperatures slightly above freezing the road subsurface temperatures are below freezing. As the sun continues to go down expecting roads to cool and result in slippery driving conditions especially across the higher terrain. At 400 PM Maine State Police Houlton have advised some roads across Aroostook County are becoming slick and will require treatment. Patchy areas of dense fog with visibility 1 NM or less is expected now through Thursday morning, especially for the nearshore waters. Fog should lift/clear an hour or two after sunrise. Mariners should be prepared for sudden drops in visibility. Reduce speeds and be on the lookout for other vessels. Use radar or GPS navigation if available, and consider remaining in harbor if such equipment is unavailable.
