The combination of well-above normal temperatures and increased humidity values will produce Heat Index values up to 110 degrees for a few hours this afternoon across portions of Starr, Hidalgo, Brooks, and Kenedy counties. A few locations, especially along the Rio Grande in Starr and Hidalgo counties, may briefly experience Heat Index values up to 112 degrees mid-afternoon. Remember to drink plenty of water, wear lightweight and light- colored clothing, and take frequent breaks from the heat. Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles.

The combination of low relative humidity and gusty winds will create an increased risk for fire start and spread this afternoon and evening. Many areas have had moderate to poor humidity recovery overnight. Today, we can expect relative humidity values as low as 25 to 35 percent and southwest to westerly winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts of 20 to 25 mph tomorrow afternoon.
