FAA Registry to Withhold Aircraft Ownership Data

In accordance with 49 USC § 44114(b), the FAA is implementing a new process for requesting the withholding of aircraft owner information—such as name and address—from public dissemination, such as the publicly available FAA Registry website.  This change may impact how we handle and process aircraft ownership data. Please take a moment to review the current process and submission details at:  Request to Withhold Aircraft Ownership Data If you have questions or need further assistance, please contact us at faa.aircraft.registry@faa.gov

Worn Fuel Primer Pumps Lead to Loss of Engine Events on General Aviation Aircraft

The FAA is investigating a report of a worn fuel primer pump that may be installed in general aviation aircraft following a non-fatal accident on a Champion 7EC Traveler. During the initial takeoff climb, the pilot noticed a significant decrease in the engine rpm and lost full engine power shortly after. It was determined that the fuel primer pump in the accident was worn and unable to lock properly causing an overly rich fuel mixture. The airplane sustained substantial damage to the right wing and the fuselage. FAA's Operational Safety Branch recently issued an Airworthiness Concern Sheet to highlight this

Know where training aircraft practice in Utah and more!

A group of Utah flight schools has come together to form the Utah Flight Training Consortium. Our goal is to promote safety in our own back yard in a rapidly growing flight training environment. One of the first products produced by the group is an interactive Google map that allows pilots to see where each school has established practice areas in order to increase situational awareness and decrease the likelihood of an accident. The website also features a monthly safety article which is written by one of the safety team or by a student at one of the schools. Please

Aviation Maintenance Alert for Cirrus SR20 and SR22 Aircraft

The Chicago Aircraft Certification Branch has posted an Aviation Maintenance Alert for Cirrus SR20 and SR22 Aircraft. This Alert results from an accident that occurred on May 27, 2018 in Houston, Texas where a SR-20 airplane crashed shortly after takeoff. The pilot reported that he could not maintain roll control of the airplane immediately after takeoff. The airplane began to roll to the left. The pilot was able to counteract with right aileron input initially, but the airplane continued to roll to the left. The pilot continued to use right aileron and trim, lowered the nose, and executed a straight-in forced landing

Agricultural Aircraft Operations – Stay Safe and Aware

Recently, there has been an increase in accidents involving agricultural aircraft operations. We suggest the following actions to help improve safety in Aerial Application Operations: Focus on pre-flight decisions and assess hazards during takeoff, landing and during application e.g., terrain, trees, wire, and tower hazards. Conduct field reconnaissance prior to each application. Consider terrain, obstructions, and adjacent congested areas. Note application product, type, and quantity and compute weight and balance for each load. Assess current and forecast weather including wind and density altitude. Use the IMSAFE Checklist and consider any human factors that could compromise safety e.g., dehydration, fatigue, complacency
