ESFAFC As of 16:30 AKDT Wednesday, an approximate 30 mile run of ice was moving downstream between Crooked Creek and Napaimute. The ice run is medium-to-large disintegrating sheets intermixed with large chunks, and moving at ~2 mph. Below Napaimute is open water until near Chuathbaluk where intact ice at varying stages of strength and decay extends all the way to Bethel. Residence in Aniak and Crow Village should expect to see water levels rise overnight as the upriver ice run meets the stronger intact ice sheets downstream and water and ice push through Birch Crossing and overtop the still ice-choked

ESFAFG OUTLOOK FOR YUKON RIVER, CANADIAN BORDER TO EAGLE The Yukon River at Dawson broke up this morning with a long run of ice passing Dawson today. The Fortymile River has broken up to the Yukon confluence. Breakup at Eagle is possible as early as tonight. The River Watch team will begin flying the Upper Yukon Friday. A strong frontal system moving north off a low pressure system in the Gulf of Alaska will bring widespread wrap around precipitation across the Eastern Interior through Saturday night. Heavy rain/snow showers are expected to begin Friday morning at higher elevations, in the Fortymile Country, and White Mountains. Moderate rain showers are expected to reach Fairbanks Friday afternoon, transitioning to rain/snow mix overnight and into Saturday. A strong low will position itself in the eastern gulf late Wednesday, with sustained southerly strong breezes increasing to gale force overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning for Clarence Strait. Expect winds to slowly diminish later Thursday evening. A brief period of gales may develop for Stephens Passage and Fredrick Sound, mainly localized near Five Finger. Likelihood of short term gales Thursday morning have increased, but are still around 30%.
