...SYSTEM MOVING INTO THE NORTHERN PANHANDLE... An active pattern returns to the southeast Alaska panhandle as a approaching system will push into the Northern Gulf of Alaska through Friday. We are expecting impactful snow accumulations, with snowfall rates up to 1 inch per hour, for the City and Borough of Yakutat starting Thursday night through Friday afternoon. Main forecast challenge remains on where heaviest axis of snow will setup along the coast. An active pattern returns to the southeast Alaska panhandle as a weakening system will push into the Northern Gulf of Alaska through Friday. As this system approaches, we are monitioring the increasing potential for impactful snow accumulations for the City and Borough of Yakutat with the highest probability for accumulating snow arriving late Thursday night through Friday afternoon. A strong area of high pressure building over the Arctic will bring high winds and blowing snow to high terrain in the Interior Wednesday afternoon through Friday. Winds will be particularly strong over Dalton Highway Summits where gusts to 50 mph are possible. Blowing and drifting snow along with low visibility are expected over Dalton, Elliott, and Steese Highway Summits and will make travel difficult.
