Special Weather Statement issued December 28 at 7:19AM AKST by NWS Anchorage AK

Areas of dense fog have formed across portions of the Mat-Su Valleys. The fog is thickest around the Knik River Bridge, along Knik-Goose Bay Road, and along the Parks Highway between Willow and the Talkeetna Spur Road. Any areas of locally dense fog are expected to persist through late this morning. Expect poor driving conditions in areas of low visibility. If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you.

Visibility reduced to one half mile. * WHERE...Thompson Pass and Keystone Canyon. * WHEN...Until 6 AM AKST Sunday. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility to one half mile or less for extended periods of time. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Winds will increase overnight Friday and remain gusty. With strong winds continuing to gust as high as 60 mph across St. Lawrence Island and temperatures in the single digits, ice accumulations from freezing spray could occur. Residents are encouraged to pull boats and other exposed objects inland. There is a possibility that power lines could become ice coated, resulting in power outages. Winds will gradually fall through the day today.
