...FRONTAL PASSAGE TO BRING RAIN AND SNOW... .Area of low pressure is expected to move northwest into the Gulf of Alaska. As the low tracks north, the associated front will move northward through the panhandle. This front is expected to usher in warmer air but with cold air already in place, parts of the northern panhandle will see snow before the switch to rain. If the warmer air is slow to track northward, total snowfall amounts will be higher than expected. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches and additional ice accumulations of a light glaze to a tenth of an inch. * WHERE...Bristol Bay. * WHEN...Until 9 AM AKST Monday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The initial round of mixed precipitation that moved through overnight has mostly cleared out this morning. A second round of freezing rain and snow mix is expected to begin later this afternoon and persist intermittently through Monday morning. The highest ice accumulations are expected near Dillingham, New Stuyahok and Koliganek.

Heavy snow is expected to develop across the Northern Interior Monday morning and continue through Thursday. Around the Fairbanks metro area expecting 1 to 3 inches of snowfall. However, north and west of Fairbanks towards Tanana, Bettles and the Dalton Highway, expect periods of heavy snow and snowfall totals over the 4 day stretch around 6 to 10 inches in some spots. There could be areas of blowing snow and low visibility along the Dalton Highway on Monday due to gusty winds.

Winds gusting as high as 65 mph in the higher terrain. * WHERE...Noatak Valley. * WHEN...From 9 AM Saturday to 9 AM AKST Monday. * IMPACTS...Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility to 1/2 mile at times. The cold wind chills as low as 30 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
