Heavy snow continues for the Haines area with warm temperatures aloft over Juneau and Gustavus transitioning precipitation type to a wintery mix including freezing rain. The transition to rain has reached Angoon and Pelican with the rain- snow line slowly moving north throughout the night tonight and into early Monday. Temperatures have risen above freezing and snow has transitioned to rain in Pelican and Angoon. Additional mix is possible for the next hour before a full transition to rain in all areas. Therefore, the winter storm has been allowed to expire.

Winds gusting as high as 45 mph will reduce visibility to one half mile or less at times. * WHERE...Dalton Highway Summits. * WHEN...Until 6 PM AKST Monday. * IMPACTS...Plan on hazardous travel conditions. Areas of blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility. Expect areas of significant drifting snow on the roadway. The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 40 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

Special Weather Statement issued December 1 at 8:24PM AKST by NWS Juneau AK

Over the last 24 hours, portions of the southern panhandle have seen snow changing to heavy rain with rainfall accumulations of over 1 inch, ranging to over 5 inches in parts of Ketchikan. Heavy rain is expected to continue through Sunday night and Monday with another 2 to 4 inches, more at higher elevation, between 6 PM Sunday and 6 PM Monday. Runoff will have a difficult time keeping up with this amount of rain, particularly in areas where the ground froze over the last week.
