Strong west to northwest winds may gust up to 40 to 50 mph across portions of the Mohawk Valley, Capital Region and the northern and central Taconics through 10 PM this evening. Winds of this magnitude will blow around unsecured objects, and could down a few tree limbs resulting in a few power outages. In addition, these gusty winds may make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles, so motorists are urged to use extra caution through this evening.

* WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow expected. Snow accumulations between 6 and 12 inches with locally higher amounts in the most persistent bands. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph will result in blowing and drifting snow. * WHERE...Southern Herkimer County. The greatest snowfall totals are expected north of the Thruway corridor. * WHEN...Until 4 PM EST Sunday. * IMPACTS...Roads will likely become slick and hazardous. HAZARDS...A lake effect snow band accompanied by winds of up to 40 MPH which can rapidly reduce visibility to less than one mile. LOCATION AND MOVEMENT...At 355 PM EST, a lake effect snow band was along a line extending from near Broadalbin to near Pownal. The lake effect snow band was nearly stationary. LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE...
