The Winter Storm Warning has been allowed to expire as the worst conditions have ended. However, lingering snow and gusty winds from the weakening storm may still lead to hazardous conditions. Expect additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches through Saturday morning for Unalaska/Nikolski, while Akutan will see periods of rain and rain/snow mix with little additional accumulation. Snowfall and strong winds are expected to begin for the Pribilofs early Friday morning. Wind gusts up to 60 mph are expected to build late Friday morning. Strong winds in conjunction with falling snow could significantly reduce visibility. The best chance for visibility to drop to a half mile, due to falling snow and winds, will be Friday afternoon. However, given that the surface is largely uncovered from snow, getting snow to loft once grounded will be more difficult. Conditions will gradually improve from Friday evening as winds begin to slowly diminish and snowfall wanes.
