The combination of recent dry conditions and 10-hour fuel moisture between 8 and 12 percent, relative humidity falling to 20 to 35 percent, and westerly winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 30 to 40 mph will result in an elevated threat for the rapid spread of fires through about 8 PM this evening. The threat is greatest over the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, the northern and central Virginia Blue Ridge, the north-central Virginia piedmont near and west of Highway 15, and the eastern West Virginia panhandle near and east of Interstate 81. The combination of low humidity and gusty northwest winds will result in a greater risk of adverse fire behavior and rapid fire spread through this afternoon. Relative humidity values will drop 20 to 25 percent across most of the area this afternoon, with values of 15 to 20 percent in the lee of the Alleghenies and Shenandoah Valley.
