ESFBIS Ice continues to form and move through the Bismarck and Mandan stretch of the Missouri River. As of late Thursday afternoon, ice continued to move all the way down to the Hazelton boat ramp area. While this suggests lots of storage remains for the ice pans, sooner...rather than later, ice will start to accumulate where the river meanders down by the University of Mary. A low pressure system will bring a mixed bag of snow, rain and freezing rain to much of western and central North Dakota on Sunday, with a transition to mostly snow Sunday night through Monday morning. Snow amounts are expected to range from an inch or two along the International Border, to little or no snow along the South Dakota Border. The highest potential for light ice accumulations on Sunday will be over far northwest North Dakota, but a light glaze is possible over much of western and south central North Dakota. ESFBIS The Missouri River now has ice pans floating downstream through the Bismarck and Mandan reach of the river. Thus far, the river continues to flow unimpeded with the ice most likely being carried down into Lake Oahe. While this often initiates the accumulation of immobile ice, and eventually higher water through the Bismarck and Mandan area, warmer weather later this week is likely to delay this annual ritual until sometime later in December.
