Southwest winds will increase to 20 to 30 knots by late this morning and continue through much of tonight. These strong offshore winds, combined with milder air temperatures in the low to mid 30s, could cause ice floes to break off from the shoreline. Anyone caught on the ice if this occurs would become stranded. It is strongly advised to stay off the ice today and tonight.

Lorain, Elyria, Western Vermilion, Vermilion, Westlake, North Ridgeville, Avon Lake, Amherst, Northern Milan, Milan, North Olmsted, Avon, Sheffield Lake, Oberlin, Sheffield, South Amherst, Berlin Heights, Kipton, and Birmingham. Marine Weather Statement issued January 22 at 4:35AM EST by NWS Cleveland OH

Single digit temperatures are occurring over Lake Erie this morning and will continue through this afternoon. Water temperatures in the central basin are near 33 degrees. Rapid ice growth is occurring and could close shipping channels on Lake Erie. Vessels traveling through Lake Erie should be aware of the potential for rapid ice growth. Plan accordingly to avoid enclosure in the ice.
