The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services is continuing an Air Quality Alert for fine particulates for Horry County in South Carolina until further notice. An Air Quality Alert means that the fine particulate concentrations within the specified areas may approach or exceed unhealthy standards due to local wildfire smoke in the Myrtle Beach area. There is an elevated risk for fire spread this afternoon in northeastern Maryland. Minimum relative humidity values will fall to between 25 and 30 percent. This will be combined with northwesterly winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts to around 30 mph. These conditions along with the continued drying of the fine fuels will support the rapid spread of any fires that ignite, which could quickly become difficult to control. Low humidity and gusty northwest winds will bring a greater risk of adverse fire behavior and rapid fire spread this afternoon through early this evening. Relative humidity values will drop to 20 to 30 percent, with northwest winds of 12 to 18 mph, gusting 25 to 30 mph. Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you may burn outdoors today. If you do burn, use extreme caution since fires can increasingly escalate under these conditions.
