Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. * WHERE...Point Lay and nearby portions of the Western Arctic Coastline. * WHEN...Until noon AKDT Monday. * IMPACTS...Blowing snow significantly reducing visibility to a half mile. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Blowing snow and poor visibility is expected to subside Monday afternoon. However, strong easterly winds and blowing snow potential returns on Tuesday and may persist through Friday.

A strong frontal system moving north from the Gulf of Alaska will bring locally heavy rain and snow showers Monday afternoon and overnight into Tuesday. The Fairbanks area and west to Nenana and Manley Hot Springs and east to Salcha can expect rain showers to begin between 2pm and 4pm Monday afternoon and transition to snow or a mix of rain and snow between 6pm and 9pm Monday evening. High pressure over the Arctic will cause east winds 20 to 25 mph to persist through Sunday along the Arctic Coast. This will bring areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility. Travel may be difficult. Winds and blowing snow will decrease Sunday night as high pressure weakens.

High pressure over the Arctic will cause east winds to increase to 20 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 to 40 mph on Friday persisting through Sunday along the Arctic Coast. This will bring areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility, but a lack of widespread transportable snow will make these impacts scattered and some areas will see mostly good visibility. Winds and blowing snow will decrease Sunday night as high pressure weakens.
