ESFAFG The Yukon River at Ft. Yukon broke up Tuesday with minor flooding. The breakup front remained stalled at 6 Mile Island below Ft. Yukon as of Thursday afternoon. Water levels remain low upriver. The ice between Fort Yukon and Beaver is slowly degrading, with water levels rising Wednesday night into Thursday at Beaver. Beaver is expected to slowly break up Friday through Sunday. The timing of the breakup front reaching Stevens Village and the Dalton Highway bridge could be anywhere from 1-5 days. ESFAFG The Yukon River has broken up in Galena. Ice started running Thursday around 5 pm and has continued overnight. Reports indicate that moving ice has continued past Bishop's Rock and down to Nulato. Kokrines Bible Camp reported the river open and ice free on Thursday evening. The ice is quite rotten and moving smoothly with a water level rise of 7 ft accompanying the ice run. River Watch will be flying downriver from Galena to the breakup front today and then checking upstream to see how much ice has cleared out and will provide updates.

Winds gusting as high as 45 mph. * WHERE...Eastern Beaufort Sea Coast. * WHEN...From 1 PM this afternoon to 10 PM AKDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility to a half mile at times. West winds in the 25 to 35 mph range, with gusts up to 50 mph, are expected on the eastern Arctic Coast on Saturday and Sunday. There will be new falling snow moving onshore from the north during this same time frame. During the periods of strongest west winds, blowing and drifting snow could result in visibility restrictions down to about 1 mile, especially when stronger winds combine with falling snow.

Snow levels will fall back to road level again overnight Wednesday into Thursday. Snow showers are not expected to be as heavy as Tuesday night, though an additional 1 to 3 inches may fall from Healy to Cantwell and from Donnelly south to Trims Camp. Visibility could be reduced to around a half mile during the heaviest snowfall. Road conditions will likely be slick overnight tonight as rain and snow that fell last night and today begins to freeze over. Travelers should use extra caution as they traverse the Alaska Range along the Parks and Richardson Highway.
