Westerly winds 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 75 mph possible. * WHERE...The Rocky Mountain Front and adjacent foothills and plains, and Eastern Glacier, Western Toole, and Central Pondera Counties. * WHEN...From Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Blowing and drifting snow may cause ground blizzard conditions, partial to full roadway blockages due to snow drifts, and hazardous to impossible travel. Plan for potential road closures. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Westerly winds increase as early as Tuesday afternoon, with the strongest winds and worst conditions expected Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Special Weather Statement issued January 5 at 3:56PM MST by NWS Great Falls MT

Light snow will affect areas around Helena and Boulder through late this afternoon. Visibility will be reduced to one mile at times. Snow accumulations of one half inch to around an inch and half will be possible through this evening. Those traveling through the Helena area, including on Interstate 15 from Wolf Creek through Helena to Boulder should be alert for changing road conditions.

Patchy dense for is forming in Eastern Glacier, Western Toole, Central Pondera and Eastern Pondera, and Eastern Teton Counties. This fog will reduce visibility down to a quarter-mile or less. Visibility will be highly variable across short distances. If traveling, be prepared for changing conditions. If you encounter fog, slow down and use caution.
