* WHAT...Expect sustained winds up to 35 knots from the west with gusts up to 46 knots. The largest significant waves will be 12 feet with a potential maximum wave height of 17 feet. * WHERE...Portions of Lake Huron. * WHEN...The maximum winds are expected around 11 AM EST Monday with the largest waves expected around 12 PM EST Monday. * IMPACTS...Strong winds will cause hazardous waves which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...There is a chance for isolated gusts to 50 knots between roughly 12 PM and 8 PM EST Monday.

Marine Weather Statement issued January 27 at 5:16AM EST by NWS Cleveland OH

Southwest winds will increase to 20 to 30 knots by late this morning and continue through much of tonight. These strong offshore winds, combined with milder air temperatures in the low to mid 30s, could cause ice floes to break off from the shoreline. Anyone caught on the ice if this occurs would become stranded. It is strongly advised to stay off the ice today and tonight.

The rain and snow will continue into the early morning before diminishing. Elevations above 3500 feet will see mainly snow with up to 2 inches of accumulation possible. Lower elevations will see more rain or a rain and snow mix, and in locations where snow accumulation occurs it will generaly be less than an inch. Locally higher amounts will be possible over the highest peaks. * WHAT...Life-threatening rip currents due to breaking waves around 6 feet. * WHERE...The exposed north-facing beaches from Aguadilla to Fajardo, Culebra, and St. Croix. * WHEN...Through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water, where it becomes difficult to return to safety.
