The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: New York, Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam until midnight EDT tonight. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone and Fine Particulates. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. Strong southerly wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph are expected for a long duration of the overnight hours across northern Nebraska Thursday night into early Friday. This is largely due to evaporation of non-thunderstorm precipitation before reaching the surface. Areas of greatest concern for this activity would be along and north of Highway 91, along and east of Highway 7. This threat should wane towards 4 AM CDT.
