Several intense supercell thunderstorms are occuring across southeast Missouri, southern Illinois and western Kentucky as of 6 pm. Any of these storms will be capable of producing very large hail to tennis ball size, wind gusts to 80 mph and a few tornadoes. If your area receives a warning this evening, please take them seriously and be near a sturdy shelter. The severe weather threat is expected to move out of the area by midnight.

At 655 AM CDT, Paducah radar detected scattered thunderstorms, some strong, across western Kentucky, where a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 900 AM CDT. These storms are producing frequent lightning, heavy rain, and may also have some small hail. Be aware that the potential exists that storms will intensify, and may become severe. Large hail and damaging wind gusts would be in play then, as well. In addition, heavy rain may cause localized street and low land flooding.
