Special Weather Statement issued January 15 at 7:55PM PST by NWS Pendleton OR

Patchy dense freezing fog will continue into late evening hours across the Blue Mountain Foothills of WA and OR. Visibilities of less than 1/2 mile are possible in spots, especially along Highway 11 near Athena, Interstate 84 near Pendleton and in portions of Walla Walla. Drivers should expect sudden reductions in visibility. Slow down and allow for extra space between yourself and other vehicles if you encounter dense fog.

Dense freezing fog with visibilities at a half mile or less is beginning to extend along Oregon Highway 11. Observations show the fog has extended at least as far south as Athena. The fog bank is expected to continue expanding south along the northern Blue Mountain foothills, impacting the Pendleton area and portions of Interstate-84 later tonight.

* WHAT...Snow. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches between 4000 and 5000 feet, and 5 to 10 inches above 5000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph. * WHERE...In Oregon, Northern Blue Mountains of Oregon. In Washington, Northwest Blue Mountains. * WHEN...Until 10 AM PST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Roads will likely become slick and hazardous. Periods of moderate and heavy snow will combine with low visibilities to create difficult driving conditions. Gusty winds could cause blowing snow.
