The National Oceanographic Partnership Program (NOPP) Hurricane Coastal Impacts (NHCI) project aims to document the height, extent, and timing of storm surge and waves as they evolve in the nearshore environment and dissipate across natural and man-made landscapes. The National Oceanic Partnership Program (NOPP) Hurricane Coastal Impacts project was formed to improve predictions of coastal impacts from landfalling hurricanes by providing more detailed observations of boundary conditions, offshore forcings, and coastal impacts, which reduce the uncertainties in the numerous steps within the offshore-to-onshore prediction process and provide ground-truth data to validate the models. FEMA Extends Transitional Sheltering Assistance Program in South Carolina COLUMBIA, S.C. – At the request of the state of South Carolina, FEMA’s Transitional Sheltering Assistance program has been extended to Jan. 11, 2025, for Helene survivors who continue to need temporary shelter. This allows households additional time to identify other housing solution or make repairs to their home. This will continue providing free hotel and motel rooms to more than 6,000 families who are already checked into area hotels. “Extending the Transitional Sheltering Assistance program through the holiday season provides much-needed relief and support to South Carolinians rebuilding their lives after this disaster,” said Kim Stenson, South Carolina Emergency Management Director. The program has been extended through the night of Jan. 10, 2025, for South Carolina Helene survivors who continue to need temporary shelter.

FEMA Extends Transitional Sheltering Assistance Program HICKORY, N.C. – FEMA is granting additional time for Helene survivors to stay in short-term, emergency sheltering in hotels and motels. FEMA’s Transitional Sheltering Assistance was originally authorized for 60 days, until Dec. 3, but has been extended until Dec. 12. This will allow households additional time to identify another housing solution or make repairs to their home. FEMA will continue to evaluate the need to extend the program as individuals’ housing plans develop. FAA Updates BasicMed Program
The Federal Aviation Administration updated its BasicMed regulations to allow pilots to operate larger aircraft and carry more passengers. The update includes the following changes: Increase the number of allowable passengers to six from five, and the number of occupants to seven from six. Increase the maximum aircraft takeoff weight to 12,500 lbs. from 6,000 lbs., excluding transport category helicopters. Allow pilot examiners to conduct flight checks using BasicMed in aircraft that are covered by the BasicMed rule. For more information click here.
