The journal article “Participatory Engagement to Reduce Communication Gaps” was recently published

Many underserved communities in Puerto Rico have been impacted by natural hazards, especially vulnerable coastal communities. This transdisciplinary pilot effort to engage and connect with underserved communities had a participatory engagement framework that focused on providing these communities with resources improved by addressing existing communication gaps. Several listening sessions with open-ended questions were held with interested parties representing various organizations, sectors, and disciplines to gather information on the use and usability of USGS products and tools. Changes to CFI Rotorcraft PTS published on March 22, 2016; includes new policy on autorotations.

The FAA has published Change 1 to the Flight Instructor Practical Test Standards (PTS) for Rotorcraft (Helicopter and Gyroplane) on March 22, 2016.  The change is specific to the helicopter class rating and focuses on a change in the policy concerning the performance of autorotations during the CFI practical test.  The updated PTS can be found at the following web address - https://www.faa.gov/training_testing/testing/test_standards/media/FAA-S-8081-7B.pdf The change in policy effects the way the Flight Instructor practical test may be accomplished when testing autorotations.  As in the past, instructional knowledge must be demonstrated on the practical test in autorotations, either straight-in or 180°
