The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has declared an Air Quality Advisory for June 11, 2025, for elevated levels of ozone in southwestern counties of Michigan. Pollutants within those areas are expected to be in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG, Orange AQI) range. The Air Quality Advisory is in effect for the following west Michigan counties: Allegan, Kent, Muskegon, Ottawa, and Van Buren Surface temperatures well into the 80s, ample sunlight, and west-southwest winds will create a conducive environment for Ozone development along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Piers may be heavily swamped by waves. * WHERE...Mason, Oceana, Muskegon, Ottawa and Allegan counties. * WHEN...From Wednesday morning through Wednesday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Strong currents can pull swimmers into deeper water and high waves can sweep people off piers. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Southwest winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph late tonight, persisting into at least Wednesday morning.
