FEMA hosting media opportunity at Mercer County, W.Va., disaster recovery center The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Small Business Administration (SBA) will be available to media at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, at the Princeton, W.Va., Disaster Recovery Center (DRC). West Virginia FEMA Federal Coordinating Officer Georgeta Dragoiu and a representative of the SBA will be present to provide an update on the recovery mission following the Sept. 25-28, 2024, remnants of Tropical Storm Helene.  Dragoiu will speak on the approval of more than $2 million in disaster aid; the upcoming deadline to apply on Friday, Feb.

Roswell Disaster Recovery Center to Close, but FEMA is Still Here SANTA FE, New Mexico. – The deadline for applying to FEMA for federal disaster assistance has passed, and while the Roswell Disaster Recovery Center will close permanently at 5 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, FEMA is not leaving Chaves County. Changes Coming for Two Disaster Recovery Centers in Georgia The Disaster Recovery Center in Jefferson County will close permanently at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan.  30. The recovery center in Coffee County will close at its current location at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, and reopen at a new location at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30.  The centers’ standard hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, except Fulton County center, where the hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, closed Saturday. FEMA Set to Open Altadena Disaster Recovery Center LOS ANGELES – FEMA is opening a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Altadena to assist Californians who experienced damage to their primary home, personal property loss or have disaster-caused emergency needs related to the wildfires. At DRCs, you can get help applying for federal assistance, speak to representatives from state and federal agencies, receive updates on your FEMA application for assistance and learn about the appeals process.  Additionally, the DRC located at the Pasadena City College Community Education Center’s last day of operations is Friday, Jan. 31. It is currently open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday through Saturday. Wildfire Survivors: Beware of Stolen Identity Fraud and Other Disaster Recovery Scams and Deceptions LOS ANGELES – Some Californians impacted by the Los Angeles County wildfires  may be targeted with scams and fraudulent schemes. Disasters are often opportunities for criminals who attempt to obtain names, addresses and social security numbers to fraudulently gain access to a survivor’s legitimate FEMA grants.  It is important to note that only one application may be filed for each household. A survivor who is applying with FEMA and is told they already have applied should first ensure no one else in the household has already applied
