Runway Incursion Training Materials for CFIs
Runway Incursions are still a major threat in our aviation system. General Aviation pilots are the leaders in making these incursions. We encourage all CFIs to spend a little extra time reinforcing Runway Incursion mitigation strategies with their students/clients. We have included a link (below) to the Runway Incursion Baseline Remedial Training Lesson Plan. This document was created for trainers assigned to do remedial training with pilots after an incursion. But, you can use it to provide pilots the training they need to avoid a Runway Incursion. Let’s all be proactive and reduce Runway Incursions… https://www.faasafety.gov/gslac/ALC/libview_normal.aspx?id=109405 Kevin L Clover National FAASTeam
CFIs’ HNL Runway Incursion Prevention Letter
The Honolulu FSDO needs your focus and help to reduce the number of Runway Incursions at HNL International Airport. The accompanying letter from KC Yanamura, the HNL FSDO Manager, and two attachments offer some analysis, techniques, and visual aids to help you improve everyone’s performance in this vital initiative. Please reference the following link to access the above materials: https://www.faasafety.gov/files/notices/2016/Feb/00_HI_CFI_RI_LETTER_upload.pdf Please call if you have any questions. Scott E. Runway Safety Videos VNY SNA CNO
Due to the increase of runway incursions at Van Nuys Airport, John Wayne Orange County Airport, and the Chino Airport, educational videos have been produced to make pilots more aware of the problem areas at each airport. Please take a moment and review the videos for these airports. Van Nuys KVNY https://goo.gl/w32UJy Van Nuys Airport in Southern California is a general aviation facility and is one of the 50 busiest airports in the nation. This video details some of the surface safety risks encountered at KVNY, including minimal space between parallel runways, line up and wait, wrong runway operations
Potential for Wrong Runway Landings at Tucson International (KTUS)
Numerous wrong-runway landings have occurred at Tucson International Airport (KTUS), especially when runways 29 are in use. Many pilots have mistaken runway 29R for 29L, or Taxiway Alpha for a landing surface. Taxiway Alpha is north and parallel to Runway 11L/29R. Ensure correct runway lineup. Runway 29L is the shorter runway on the south side of the airport. Pilots are urged to thoroughly plan for their arrival at Tucson in advance. Review the current airport diagram, in addition to the attached photos depicting runways 29 at KTUS. https://www.faasafety.gov/files/notices/2018/Mar/KTUS_Runways_29_and_Taxiway_A.pdf For questions, please contact Charlotte York, Tucson ATCT Support Specialist: 520-295-5723; Charlotte.York@faa.gov
