Southeast winds will increase this afternoon sustained at 10-15mph gusting to 25mph as relative humidity falls into the mid to upper 20s. Dry conditions in addition to the winds could result in rapid spread of fires within dry vegetation. Check with your state DNR or local county before attempting any outdoor burning.

Dry conditions and gusty winds will lead to near critical fire weather conditions today. South to southeast winds of 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph are forecast this afternoon and early evening. Minimum relative humidity values of 18 to 25 percent are also expected. Together, these conditions could lead to the rapid spread of fires. Check burning restrictions and fire danger before burning. Warm and dry conditions are expected this afternoon. Coupled with breezy winds, conditions for fire are expected to be near critical. Areas along and east of I-29 are the most likely to experience near critical conditions. Humidity levels should decrease to 20-25% this afternoon as winds are weakening. Occasional gusts of 25-30 mph may create temporary periods of critical fire conditions.

As a front over the southeastern Bering Sea pushes north, it will bring a messy combination of heavy snow, rain-snow mix, and rain to much of Western Alaska beginning on Wednesday and running through Friday. Between 2 and 8 inches of snow may fall in coastal locations, with between 1 and 4 inches for Interior valleys. The highest totals would likely be along the YK Delta coast. Precipitation will remain mostly or completely snow above 1500 feet in the Interior.
