FEMA, State, USDA Team to Host Agriculture Recovery Fairs

FEMA, State, USDA Team to Host Agriculture Recovery Fairs HICKORY, N.C. – One-day Agriculture Recovery Centers are planned to help North Carolina farmers recover from Helene damage. The first locations are set for Buncombe, Henderson, McDowell and Watauga counties. Additional events are planned for Ashe, Avery, Burke, Mitchell and Yancey counties. All are open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The walk-through events will provide information on addressing agricultural or rural needs not covered by standard programs offered by FEMA or the state, and offer opportunities for farmers, ranchers, nursery owners, vineyards, honeybee growers and fish producers to meet with agricultural officials

Merrill Field Runway Safety Action Team Meeting

An Aviation Safety and Runway Safety Action Team meeting will convene April 12, 2019 to discuss  operations on the Merrill Airport (MRI) and surrounding area. The meeting will begin at 5:00 PM in the UAA Aviation Technology Building Conference Room.   Expect the meeting to last up to two hours. This year the meeting will include a variety of other safety related issues, topics, and concerns. There  will be time given for participants to bring up concerns and/or new ideas to improve our operation  within the Merrill Field airport area. Thank you for your help in improving aviation safety. The USGS Coastal Change Hazards Portal shows potential coastal change from Hurrricane Helene. Prior to landfall on the Florida coast on September 26, 2024, the Coastal Change Hazards Team predicted that 63 percent of beaches from Horn Island, MS to Marco Island, FL were very likely to erode at the dunes’ base, 50 percent of dunes were very likely to be overwashed by storm waves, and 32 percent of dunes were expected to be very likely to be inundated (completely submerged) by surge, tide, and waves given worst-case scenario surge and timing of the storm. The USGS Coastal Change Hazards Portal shows potential coastal change from Hurrricane Milton. Prior to landfall on the Florida coast on October 9, 2024, the Coastal Change Hazards Team predicted that 86 percent of beaches along the west coast of the Florida peninsula were very likely to erode at the dunes’ base, 82 percent of dunes were very likely to be overwashed by storm waves, and 75 percent of dunes were expected to be very likely to be inundated (completely submerged) by surge, tide, and waves given worst-case scenario surge and timing of the storm.
