“20% by 2020” Monthly Report (July 2018) The USHST, a regional partner to the International Helicopter Safety Team, set a goal in 2016 of reducing the fatal U.S. helicopter accident rate by 2020 to 0.61 fatal accidents per 100,000 flight hours, compared with USHST’s baseline rate of 0.76 per 100,000 hours. That number is the average fatal accident rate for 2009–2010 and 2012–2014. The H-SE calls for the industry to develop training for recognition of spatial disorientation and recovery to controlled flight.
