How will the start-up timing of the new U.S. LNG export facilities affect our forecast?
U.S. exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) represent the largest source of natural gas demand growth in our March 2025 Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), with LNG gross exports expected to increase by 19% to 14.2 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in 2025 and by 15% to 16.4 Bcf/d in 2026. The start-up timing of two new LNG export facilities—Plaquemines LNG Phase 2 (consisting of 18 midscale trains) and Golden Pass LNG—could significantly affect our forecast because these facilities represent 19% of incremental U.S. LNG export capacity in 2025–26.

Disaster Recovery Centers in North Carolina Will Transition to Locally Operated Resource Centers March 31 HICKORY, N.C. – FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers in Western North Carolina will transition to locally operated Resource Centers March 31 and will cease operation as FEMA centers at 2 p.m. on March 29. The centers will operate Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and FEMA will have specialists to help people apply for FEMA assistance and update application status. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) also will have specialists to help people apply for disaster loans. The centers will be locally operated, state and federally supported.

In our March 2025 Short-Term Energy Outlook, we forecast crude oil production in Alaska will increase by 16,000 barrels per day (b/d) in 2026 to 438,000 b/d after remaining relatively flat in 2025. Two new oil developments in Alaska—the Nuna and Pikka projects—are expected to boost crude oil production in the state after decades of decline. FEMA, Cherokee Nation Sign Historic Agreement that Will Help Disaster Survivors WASHINGTON -- Leaders of FEMA and the Cherokee Nation signed an agreement on Jan. 15 that will enable the Tribal Nation to deploy in support of FEMA’s operations during disasters, the first such agreement ever signed. The Intergovernmental Service Agreement (IGSA) is a formal, binding contract. Under the agreement, FEMA’s Supplemental Response Team (SRT) program is able to deploy to the Cherokee Nation’s Incident Management Team, giving it the opportunity to integrate with federal response.
