An Air Quality Alert means that the fine particulate concentrations within the specified areas may approach or exceed unhealthy standards due to local wildfire smoke in the Myrtle Beach area. High pressure over the Southeast U.S. will continue to dominate the region into the weekend, minimizing smoke dispersion from numerous wildfires in the area. The combination of dry fuels, increasing afternoon SE winds and limited rainfall during the past couple weeks, will lead to continued dangerous and adverse fire behavior today across Southeast NC and Northeast SC. The South Carolina Forestry Commission will continue the SC state-wide burn ban until further notice.
