Special Weather Statement issued January 23 at 7:47PM EST by NWS Wilmington NC

Refreezing of melted ice and snow will create patchy black ice on area roads tonight and early Friday morning. Icy spots could form on paved surfaces such as bridges and overpasses, primary and secondary roads, parking lots, sidewalks and driveways. Black ice is difficult to see and distinguish from dry surfaces. The deceptive nature of black ice can catch you unaware while you are driving or walking, causing you to lose control of your motor vehicle or to slip and fall.

Special Weather Statement issued January 22 at 7:50PM EST by NWS Wilmington NC

Dangerous road conditions will continue through at least Thursday morning. Any limited melting that occurred today will quickly refreeze this evening and tonight as temperatures drop into the teens. Expansive snow cover will make travel very difficult, especially on secondary roads. If you must travel, slow down and allow for plenty of space between yourself and other vehicles. Be especially mindful on bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads.
