A strong frontal system moving north off a low pressure system in the Gulf of Alaska will bring widespread wrap around precipitation across the Eastern Interior through Saturday night. Heavy rain/snow showers are expected to begin Friday morning at higher elevations, in the Fortymile Country, and White Mountains. Moderate rain showers are expected to reach Fairbanks Friday afternoon, transitioning to rain/snow mix overnight and into Saturday. A strong low will position itself in the eastern gulf late Wednesday, with sustained southerly strong breezes increasing to gale force overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning for Clarence Strait. Expect winds to slowly diminish later Thursday evening. A brief period of gales may develop for Stephens Passage and Fredrick Sound, mainly localized near Five Finger. Likelihood of short term gales Thursday morning have increased, but are still around 30%.
